My Approach

One counseling approach does not fit all. We all process differently some of us like to think it out (cognitive processing), some of us have easy access to our emotions (emotional exploration), some of us are in tune with finding the information in our bodies (somatic awareness), and some of us respond to expressive/art approaches (creative therapeutic techniques). Some of us respond to a mix of everything.

Sometimes, you may need someone to debrief with, sometimes, you need strategies, and sometimes, we may need to explore family of origin, old wounds, past grief or trauma.

The frameworks that inform my work include hakomi, emotion-focused therapy (emotional exploration), narrative therapy (story-focused healing), cognitive behavioral therapy (cognitive processing), interpersonal therapy (relationship-centered therapy), family systems therapy (systemic family analysis), schema therapy (core belief restructuring), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), mindfulness-based therapy (present-moment awareness), expressive/art therapy (creative therapeutic approaches), and harm minimization approach to drug and alcohol misuse.

It’s also my job to ask you “How are we doing here? Are we focussing on what you want to be focussing on? Is this approach working for you?”

If you like me, if you feel like you can tell me things, if you look forward to coming to talk with me (even when I challenge you) …then we are halfway there.

Let us help you find care that's right for you.
